I had my first exam of third semester today and I would have to say that it went pretty well. It was in Bacteriology. I did so well that I think it is my new favorite class! Unfortunately, I have 2 more exams coming up next week (pathology and virology) so you know what that means...hunkering down this weekend and studying. No fun times for me this weekend. Although I am going to try and go to volleyball on Friday, afterall I have to have some fun. ;)
My new favorite thing is green tea! (Thank you Kristilee!) She gave me some green teas to try that were flavored blueberry, pomegranate, and mint and they were absolutely delicious! I will definitely be buying some when the next shopping day comes around.
Good ol' Dr. Reich...Supposedly during our Reproductive Physiology (optional) lectures (which I missed because I was working with my group on our necropsy report), he gave a link to an article in the New York Times entitled, "What Do Women Want?" and I thought I would share that with you all. It is somewhat long, but if you have the time I would recommend reading it and forwarding it to all your guy friends out there. Let them really know what women are all about.

As for the necropsy...let me just say that I will never be a pathologist. Our specimen was an ovine (sheep) that stunk to the high heavens!! I would rather be in the anatomy lab all day sniffing formaldahyde than cut open a dead sheep. Of course it didn't help that the sheep had been dead for 4 days before the necropsy was performed. But I have to admit, I did learn some pretty cool stuff like gases from the bacteria (breaking down the ingesta) mixing with the iron (from broken down hemoglobin) giving the skin a bluish-green appearance which is called pseudomelanosis. Pretty cool stuff, huh?
What is with this crazy weather??? Snow and ice in Texas? I feel sorry for all you smucks living in the US right now. Seems the only good spot is Florida (Aren't you lucky Saskia?) We are enjoying some nice 80 degree weather here in St. Kitts with blue skies and cool winds. Which reminds me, Mom- can you get a picture of Cody with his booties on? That would be great!!!

First Blog Ever!
Well kids, this is my first blog ever and I am not too sure on what to write. I guess with these things you just write whatever pops into your head. So, here it goes....(inside my head is a scary place to be so proceed with caution).
Today was pretty uneventful just like every other day of my life here in St. Kitts. I slept in late and didn't go swimming like I should have. I don't know how I am ever going to do the channel swim if I don't get in shape and swim! The channel swim for those of you who don't know, is a two and a half mile swim from St. Kitts to Nevis (the sister island). I would like to do it this year, but if I don't start swimming and getting in shape it is not going to happen.
Lots of new things have been happening this semester. I joined the gym in town. My friends Stacy and Missy go and they kick my ass into shape. The gym is pretty ghetto with only a handful of cardio and weight machines but it serves my purpose. I joined scuba club and I am going to become open water certified! I am excited for that to start! I am also a little nervous because I have heard some stories about people running out of oxygen 40 feet below the surface and ears not equilibrizing correctly. I just wish I had an underwater camera so I can take pictures of all the fish and sea turtles. That shall be my birthday present for this year (hint, hint mis padres). I am also in AAEP (American Association of Equine Practitioners). I am trying to be more involved because I want to go to Kentucky this year for OEPS (Opportunities in Equine Practice Seminar). It is a big convention with hundreds of vendors with every job opportunity you can think of that deals with horses. It is a great way to network and get intern/extern opportunities. Anywho, if I get involved with AAEP here in St. Kitts I will accumulate points and hopefully have enough to go. That is the plan anyway.
As of right now, the semester is going pretty slow. I really hope we start to speed things up in class because it is putting me to sleep. My first exam of semester 3 is coming up on Tuesday. It is in Bacteriology, so we shall see how that goes. Everyone tells me that this is the semester where things start to make sense and are pulled together. I really hope they are right.
Tonght my roommate attempted to make lasagna for our friends who were coming over for a study session. It turned out quite good! I was impressed. We made a meat and vegetarian lasagna and studied some BacT. Overall, I think it was a productive night.
This past weekend I went to dinner with my friend Colleen and saw the Underworld movie with a bunch of people. It was a pretty good movie seeing that I haven't seen the others. But this was a prequel, so now I am all set to watch the other movies and know what is going on. Movie night! Then last night a bunch of us went to the Marriott for drinks and just talked for hours. It was a good weekend but it would have been better with Saskia here! I miss you!!!
I guess that is all the news in my head for now. That wasn't too scary for some of you I hope. I don't know how often these blogs will occur (I can get pretty lazy at times- and then there is that thing called school I need to focus on). But I think this is a good way for me to keep in touch with people at home. So that is all for now folks! Until next time...
